Brienne, Sword Maiden of Tarth from A Feast for Crows is the daughter and only heir to Lord Selwyn of Evenfall (and of Tarth). She is very tall and brawny for a woman which has led her to become a knight. She wins the right by combat to join King Renly as his Kingsguard. It is while she is guarding him that he is killed by black magic. Most don't believe that Brienne had nothing to do with it, but Catelyn Stark was also present and she also knows that Brienne did not kill Renly. Brienne agrees to go into the service of Caitlyn Stark because she speaks for her when others would have executed her for failing to protect Renly. She agrees to escort Jaime Lannister to Kingsport in exchange for her daughter's return. She is captured and would have suffered horriblly at their hands if Jaime Lannister hadn't turned back to assist her.
