Who is Maisie Robinson from A Dangerous Fortune and what is their importance?

When we first meet Maisie she is eleven-years-old. Her family immigrated to England from Russia. Over the course of the novel, Maisie falls in love with Hugh, becomes pregnant with his child, gives birth to their son (Hubert), and eventually marries Hugh before the novel's conclusion.
