Why does Alex punch Dim in the face?

Alex punches Dim because he made a cat-call at a woman who had just started singing in the interval between songs at the Korova. She was singing part of one of Alex's favorite operas, and Alex felt that Dim's outburst showed his true ignorance. Alex explains to Dim that he hit him because he has no manners and has no idea how to properly conduct himself in public.
