What problems does Alex have in his fight with the old woman?

Alex is feeling very smug and villainous, but as he approaches the old woman, he steps on a saucer of milk and loses his balance. The old woman then attacks him with her cane. After kicking her in the face, he steps on another saucer of milk and finds that the cats are attacking him. Finally, Alex hits the woman in the head with the statue of Ludwig Van Beethoven.
