How is blood described by Alex in this chapter?

Alex usually refers to blood as "red." He likens it to fruit juice and wine, and in the case of the latter, remarks that it seems to look the same wherever he goes. It seems to Alex like blood is some kind of wine, all made by the same company. Alex does not seem to see violence as having real consequences, and perhaps it seems very unreal to him.
