What happens to the adults in the novel's conclusion?

Towards the end of the story, the teens and parents arrive at a mansion owned by Juicy’s family. As society continues to slowly decline, the teens organize efforts to create a self-sustaining community in and around the mansion. Eventually, the parents become incredibly lethargic and absentminded. One day, they disappear altogether, apparently having left en masse.
