Explain why John wants to help Art Lee even though other doctors are willing to let him be a scapegoat for Karen's death.

Many of the doctors agree that Art Lee is being used as a scapegoat for Karen's death. They figure that Karen had come from a prominent family who would make sure someone paid for her death. They also figure that Art Lee had put himself in a dangerous spot when he decided to perform abortions, which are illegal. John Berry sees things differently, though. He believes that Art is telling the truth when he says that he did not perform an abortion on Karen. He also feels that the person who left Karen in such bad shape is the one the police should be going after. John is unhappy with by his colleagues' indifference.
