What kind of a person was Frank Vann?

Frank Vann was a hard-working, loving father who did his best to provide for John Paul Vann and his other children. When he could find work, he worked with diligence, but he never earned much money, nor did he seek out work much of the time. He was loyal and dependable to Myrtle Lee Tripp, who usurped much of his earning for herself.
