Who is Major Victor Joppolo from A Bell for Adano?

Major Victor Joppolo is the novel's main character. He travels to Adano after the war, in order to assist in the restoration of the town. As a member of the AMGOT team, Victor takes special notice of the town's inhabitants and shows them nothing but compassion. This compassion, however, will ultimately be the cause of his removal from the town, as he does what he believes to be right, rather than following orders.
