How does the author use foreshadowing in 2061: Odyssey Three?

In Chapter Seven, the voyage to Haley's comet carries certain risks, and Dr. Floyd prepares for the possibility that he might not return. Besides his age, others in his family have died in space, and so the he tries to make things easy on those he might leave behind. Dr. Floyd's character takes on humoristic and compassionate features. His pondering of his grandson foreshadows events to come.
