What is the author's style in 1st to Die: A Novel by James Patterson?

The language of the novel is simple English. There is slang used throughout the novel, including words associated with careers in law enforcement. The novel also includes some words particular to the medical community as the main character deals with doctors in the treatment of her anemia. When the main character visits the coroner's office, there are also some words used that the reader might not be familiar with but which describe the processes and results of tests performed in the autopsies of the murder victims.
