What is the main idea of the first chapter

In the first chapter, we are introduced to Jake and Al. Al has something he wants to share with Jake, and Jake is worried by all of the changes he sees in his friend. The chapter ends with Al giving Jake instructions and warnings before Jake sends him back in time.
