Why does Mrs. Marmora choose the whirligig?

Mrs. Zamora doesn't believe in retribution.... some she experienced the consequences of first hand in the Philippines, where an eye for an eye was the norm. After thinking about various types of restitution, she realizes that there is nothing that Brent can do for her that will make up for the loss of her daughter. Thus, she ruminates about the situation and finally comes to the decisions that Brent must do something to keep her daughter's spirit alive, something that Lia herself would have done had she lived..... thus, she gives Brent the whirligigs, which will in turn, become a great gift.
