Valmont is described as a womanizer who only thinks of his own pleasure. How are the tables turned when he meets Madame de Tourvel?
Valmont first seeks to corrupt Madame de Tourvel simply for the challenge. Over time, however, he begins to fall in love with the woman, although his version of love is quite different from most. He becomes obsessed, and cannot stand to lose her, although whether out of fear of failure or true emotional commitment, one cannot be sure.
