Yes, in the end, Elizabeth does marry Nelson, which really makes us think. As a little girl, Elizabeth sees Nelson as boring.... a goody-two-shoes. The fact that her parents really want her to marry Nelson one day is just another tally mark against him. When Elizabeth leaves home, she sees Nelson primarily to keep her parents from asking questions while she is actually dating someone else. She even goes so far as to have a relationship with Nelson's brother. In the end, however, she comes to see Nelson as an individual, rather than someone her parents are trying to foist upon her.
