Im just starting Cat's Eye and doing a fast read for an emergency essay. Why is Elaine Risley obsessed with Cordelia?

Toward the end of the novel, we learn that Cordelia has been placed in a rehab of sorts and wants Elaine to help her get out. Elaine refuses and never sees her again. She later becomes obsessed with Cordelia because she never stops wondering what happened to her.
