Objective

James Bond is dealing with the death of his new wife, Tracy, who was shot and killed by Bond's nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld just nine months ago. Bond is devastated and trying to pick up the pieces of his life and move on the best he can. Unfortunately, his grief makes him careless and accident prone.

The aim of this lesson is to examine the character of Bond.

Lesson

1) Class discussion. What do the students think Bond looks like? What is Bond's character background? What does this chapter say about Bond's character and how does it express it? What do the students think is Bond's motivations for being a Secret Service agent? What influence has Bond's character had on popular culture? How different is Bond's character in the book to Bond's character in the films?
