• Between 2005 and 2009, a Mennonite colony in Bolivia called Manitoba Colony experienced attacks on girls and women throughout the night.
• Some colonists speculated ghosts, demons, or even God were responsible for the attacks, though some accused the women and girls of making up the attacks altogether.
• Eight men were found to have been using animal anesthetic to knock out and sexually assault the victims, and they were convicted in a Bolivian court in 2011.
• In 2013, similar assaults and other sexual abuse were still happening in the colony, indicating that the problem was never actually solved.
• The author claims that Women Talking is a reaction through fiction...
