Lesson 1 (from Chapter 1)
Objective
Chapter 1: This lesson is about the genre of the book - fiction - and the general structure that fiction follows. It will be helpful for the students to be able to identify the various parts of a fiction story so they can identify those parts in this story, and help them follow along with the story.
Lesson
1. All fiction writing is based on a common structure (the plot) which has common elements. This lesson will explore how those elements were shown in this story. This lesson only has one activity, but it will take a great deal of time, so be sure to allot enough time for the activity and the discussion.
2. Before class, write down the elements of the plot (listed below) on the board. Also write down the definitions for each.
