The author of the book, Tom Clancy, has become famous for his ability to embrace the thriller genre. This genre is defined as having a "hard" type hero who is trying to solve a central conflict often revolving around some sort of villain. This book, and all others by the author, offers excellent examples of the thriller genre. This lesson will discuss the nature of the thriller genre.
Lesson
1. Group Activity: Without Remorse is an example of a thriller based on the nature of the protagonist and the central conflict of the book. Have the class split into groups of four and create a list of ways that the book fits into the thriller genre and why this is. After your group completes the list have one member share your findings with the rest of class.
