Lesson 1 (from Part I: Preface - Chapter 1 (Pages 1-56))
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze the paradox Eddo-Lodge mentions in the Preface about how she began talking to white people about race so much more than she ever previously had almost immediately after her 2014 blog post declaring she had decided to stop talking to white people about race. Eddo-Lodge's 2014 blog post on the topic of conversations surrounding race and racism prompted a range of reactions among the public, including an "outpouring of emotion" from white people who asked Eddo-Lodge to keep writing and talking about race. Eddo-Lodge also heard from many people of color thanking her for expressing feelings they could relate to.
