Objective
Mrs. Paley constantly discussed the behavior of her black children to her friends and colleagues. This lesson will discuss how one friend noticed just how much Mrs. Paley talked about her black students and how this prompted Mrs. Paley to write "White Teacher."
Lesson
1.) Group Discussion:
Divide the class into groups and discuss the conversation Mrs. Paley had with one of her colleagues on her constant discussion about her black students. Do you think Mrs. Paley talked about her black students because of interest and intrigue or because of some prejudice? Why might Mrs. Paley's constant speech about her black student's show her insecurities of teaching those specific student's? Do you think because Mrs. Paley paid so much attention to her black student's she ignored her white student's at the same time?
