• Robin Diangelo is a white woman, sitting beside a black woman, facing a group of white people seated before them.
• They are in their workplace and have been hired to lead the group in a dialogue about race.
• The room is filled with tension and charged with hostility.
• Diangelo has just presented a definition of racism that includes the acknowledgement that white people hold social and institutional power over people of color.
• A white man is pounding his fist on the table, proclaiming that white folks cannot gets jobs anymore.
• Diangelo looks around the room and sees a sea of white, and wonders why this man is so angry.
