Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss Two Feathers' racial heritage, and the prejudice she and other characters experience because of their skin color. Two Feather is a Native American. Crawford is a Black man. They both experience prejudice in 1920s Nashville.

Class Discussion: What does Mrs. Hampton think about Two? Why is she not sure whether to treat her like a white or a Negro? What debate is there about mixing races at this time in history? How does Mrs. Hampton treat Two? What does that reveal about her prejudice toward anyone who is not white? Why does Two wear a folded bandana headband to help people identify her out of costume? How does the color of her skin sometimes raise suspicions that she might be a Negro? How does that lead to discrimination? What predicament does Crawford have because he is Black...
