Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the novel. Students will analyze facts about the author. Students will discuss how these facts may have influenced the work as well as their own reading of the work.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of Wheat that Springeth Green? When and where was he born? How old was J.F. Powers when the book was published? How was the book received by the public? Did it win any awards? Has the author written any other books? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the book?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask students to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the novel’s themes and characters...
