• Chapter 1 opens with young Joe coming down from his room to say goodbye to the “party people” (3) in his house.

• In an effort to gain the attention of one female party goer, Joe yells out, “I eat cheese!” (3) and repeats it when he sees that it makes the adults laugh.

• Joe’s uncle, Bobby, carries Joe upstairs to his room, places a silver dollar on his bedside table and tells Joe to keep an eye on it.
