Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Weetzie Bat's relationship with her father Charlie Bat. Charlie Bat and Weetzie's mother, Brandy-Lynn, had had a whirlwind romance years earlier, but they had been split up for a long time, and Charlie lived in New York, on the opposite coast from Weetzie and Brandy-Lynn, who loved in California. Charlie and Weetzie visit each other often, but Weetzie really wishes her father and mother were still living together, and she wishes Charlie would make an effort to reach out to Brandy-Lynn.
Lesson
Class Discussion: What do Weetzie and Charlie do when they visit each other? What does Weetzie wish Charlie would do regarding her mother, Brandy-Lynn? What are some of the things Charlie and Weetzie have in common? How does Block characterize their father-daughter relationship in general?
