Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Define a memoir. What elements suggest a memoir? Why do people write memoirs? Do memoirs have themes? If so, what do you think the theme of "Warriors Don't Cry" is?

2) Small Group Discussion: Divide the students into groups of three or four. Compare and contrast "memoir" with "biography." What similar qualities do the two types of genres share? How do they differ? How would the story change if written by a journalist? Have you ever read a memoir?

3) Individual Writing: Write a paragraph describing the difference you might expect to see had the author decided to write a biography instead of a memoir...
