Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss the Sand Creek Massacre, and how it changed Jude's life. Jude vaguely remembered being awakened by the sound of gunfire on the day of the massacre. Later he found it difficult to remember his life before the killings at Sand Creek.

Class Discussion: Where was Jude and what was he doing when the massacre started? How old was Jude at the time? What did he see when he went outside of the tipi where he was sleeping? How did his grandmother indicate that he should run with a boy? After fleeing from the massacre, what did Jude remember of his life before he left? How did his life change after the massacre?
