1. Teacher lecture includes information of Anne Rice and her impact on the world of Gothic fiction. (1) Time should be spent alerting the students to the
fact that Rice rewrote the character of the vampire, debunking many of the Hollywood cliches about the immortals. Forewarn the students that they
will be expected to find the myths about vampires that Rice rejects. (2) Rice is the first writer to offer an explanation about the origin of the vampire
which comes out in this novel. (3) Some time should be spent in summarizing INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE because that novel, the first in Rice's
series, plays an important part in THE VAMPIRE LESTAT.
