Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1-2)

Objective

This lesson will focus on the mythology introduced in Vampire Academy.

Lesson

1) In Class Discussion: Discuss the new elements of vampire mythology introduced in this story. Talk about the Moroi and the Strigoi, as well as the concept of the dhampir guardian.

2) Class Debate: Ask the students if they prefer this new vampire myth, or the more traditional vampire myth. Have the class split into two groups to debate the issue. Make sure to have the students compare the different elements of each myth as they defend their decisions.

3) In Class Short Essay: Have the students write a short essay, from one paragraph to one page in length, explaining how this story might have been different if it were told without adding the new vampire mythology.

4) Homework: Have the students write their own new vampire mythological elements for this story. Make sure they explain each element...
