Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Mary Rose's decision to protect Gloria (Glory) Ramirez in Part I. Mary Rose is seven months pregnant and is alone with her young girl, Aimee Jo, on an isolated ranch outside of Odessa, Texas, near the oil fields. Her husband, Robert, is frequently away and Mary Rose is accustomed to taking care of herself and her child on her own. But Mary Rose is still terrified when Gloria shows up on her doorstep on Sunday morning, beaten and bloody. When Dale Strickland shows up shortly after, Mary Rose has immediate second thoughts about giving Gloria refuge in her house.
