Reading Diary
Give students the opportunity to maintain a diary related to their reading of the work. For each reading assignment, students will complete the reading and then write their thoughts on Doyle's perspectives.
Elizabeth Gilbert
Author and memoirist Elizabeth Gilbert is described in several chapters as Doyle's close friend. Read one of Gilbert's books and prepare an essay that compares the writing and perspectives of these authors.
Imagining
In Part 2 of the memoir, Doyle discusses giving friends and readers examples of imagined scenarios. Take one of these scenarios and write out your imaginary world with the perfect relationship/home/family/etc.
News Clipping
Look in your local newspaper or archives for an article that involves some aspect of the memoir and bring it to class. You will present it in front of the class and explain how it relates to the memoir.
