Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is for students to examine human life in its earliest known forms. Millions of years ago, humans were merely regular animals. Indeed, they were relatively weak and did not yet know how to make or use tools.

Class Discussion: What do you think the first humans were like? How do you think they communicated? Do you think of them as animals? Why or why not? Do you think of modern humans as animals? Is there a point at which humans stopped being animals? What do you think the first person who picked up a stick used it for? Why do you think the author chose to start the book the way he did?
