Objective
Setting. The setting or location of any novel is often as important as the characters. This novel takes place in New Orleans in 2005.
This lesson will look at the setting.
Lesson
1. Homework. Students will research New Orleans and its history and present day information.
2. Class discussion. Could this novel had been set anywhere? How does New Orleans make this a unique story? How does New Orleans differ from the where this class lives? How did the setting affect the characters? The plot? The themes? Why is the setting important?
3. Group work. In groups students will research a setting in America, where the setting might be similar and discuss the ways in which the novel would have been different had it been in the researched setting.
