Lesson 1 (from Prologue, pgs. 11-60)
Objective
The aim of this lesson is to examine the representation of all the famous characters in the prologue.
Lesson
1. Divide the students into three groups; Frank Sinatra, J. Edgar Hoover and Jackie Gleason. Using the information in the prologue, write a song to express what Sinatra felt about the event, the Gleason a comedy act and the Hoover's a memo to the President.
2. Divide the students into the following groups; Jackie Gleason, Bobby Thomson, Frank Sinatra, J. Edgar Hoover. Each student should decide how their character walks and talks, and then write a speech that introduces their character. End the lesson by asking the students to perform their introductory speech.
3. Divide the students to two groups and ask them to examine the following sentence. The author twists his representations of the famous people in this section so they present his own political views.. One group should...
