Dress Me Up
Ask the students to dress in a costume reflective of one of the nationalities mentioned in the story. Have a "United Nations" parade in class and give a small token to the best dressed student.
Sketching
Ask the students to sketch a scene from the riots mentioned in the story. Ask the students to explain why they specifically sketched that scene.
Song Writing
Riots, tallies, and mobs usually inspire songs targeted on political and social issues. Ask the students to come up with a short song about the riots or about the topics touched on in the story.
Poem Writing
Similar to the songwriting exercise, ask the students to write and recite a poem about the issues discussed in the story.
Movie Watching
Ask students to nominate a movie that will have the same theme about the Rodney King story and watch it in class...
