Be Winnie
Have students pretend to be in Winnie's shoes (boys don't have to pretend to be girls, but just imagine that they are ten years old and have met the Tucks). Have students write a letter to Jesse telling him thank you for the water and explaining why they will or will not drink it.
What Came Next?
Break students into groups of three or four and have each come up with a two-minute presentation detailing what Mae, Tuck, Jesse and Miles do next. Encourage creativity, but remind students of what the personalities and dreams of each was in the story.
