Read through the marriages and births of Chapter 1, and create the family tree for Harry S. Truman and for Bess.

Additional reading about this subject

Read through Chapter 2 and list the books mentioned that Harry read while growing up. Find them at the library or research them on the Internet. Write a short synopsis of the book and then make a list of which you would recommend for your fellow students.

Time management

Read through Chapter 3, listing all the chores and duties Harry did at the farm. Pretending that you worked on the farm and managed it as Harry did, with his brother, his ailing father, and some help. Plan out your daily chores beginning at 5:00 am and ending after 10:00 pm. Don't forget to leave some time in the evening to write a long letter to Bess.
