The main character of the novel is Wittman Ah Sing. He works in a department store, but aspires to be a playwright.
The aim of this lesson is to examine Wittman's character.
Lesson
1. Divide the students into pairs or groups of three. Ask them to use magazine pictures to make a picture story of Wittman's life.
2. Ask the students to write 500 words on what they think Wittman's life would have been like if he did not go to prison.
3. Ask the students to write a scene from Wittman's life in 20 years time. Will he overcome his fear of women? Will he be living in a better house?
4. Homework. Write Wittman's character background.
