Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze the unnamed narrator's feelings about her Jewish heritage in the story "Switzerland." In the first few pages of this story, the narrator observes, "We were European Jews, even in America, which is to say that catastrophic things had happened, and might happen again." The narrator seems to associate the financial and emotional turmoil in her family with the family's broader heritage and history.
