Lesson 1 (from Prologue - Chapter 8)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the exposition of the novel. Students will identify and analyze elements from the beginning of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in order to identify the main characters, the setting, and any potential conflicts and themes the novel might contain.
The beginning of the novel introduces the reader to Lara Jean Covey and her family. The reader is introduced to the two main settings: the Covey home and the local high school. The reader is also introduced to themes involving responsibility, fear, and growing up. Finally, readers are introduced to potential conflicts, such as Lara Jean’s conflicts with Kitty, Josh, and Peter.
