Our introduction to Toby's mother paints a less-than-ideal picture. Toby's mother is taking her son halfway across the country with no realistic expectations. She does not know where they will live and she has no job prospects. The objective of this lesson is to create a basic profile of Toby's mother.
Lesson
In Class Activities
1) Have each student write one thing about Toby's mother on the board, some true and some false. Once every student has written something, quiz the class on which statements are true and which are false.
2) Have each student write two paragraphs about Toby's mother. The paragraphs can be simple description or analytical. Break the class into small groups and have them discuss what they wrote.
3) Discussion: What do you think of Toby's mother? What kind of relationship does she have with her son? Why does she think...
