Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author's background. Students will explore There There author Tommy Orange's personal background and analyze how his biography relates to the subject matter of the novel.

Class Discussion: Who is author Tommy Orange? How old was he when he wrote There There? What is his ethnic background? What is his cultural background? Where did he grow up? Which other writers influenced his work? Does he mention other writers in There There? What else, if anything, has he published?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask them to create lists of facts about the author’s life. These can include his early life, where he grew up, his educational background, publications he has written for, and other books, awards, and genres.
