Lesson 1 (from Prologue - Chapter 5)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is to examine the genre of the novel. The Weight of Ink takes place in London at the turn of the twenty-first century. There is also a storyline that takes place in seventeenth-century London through the use of letters.

Class Discussion: Where and when do the Prologue and Chapters 2 and 4 take place? Are any characters historical figures? Are there events mentioned that actually happened? Are details about the time and people accurate? Why is the genre of that section of the novel historical fiction? Where and when do Chapters 1, 3, and 5 take place? Are any of those characters historical figures? Could the events in those chapters have happened? Do they take place in a notable place and time or could they take place in any modern time period? Why are those sections realistic fiction?
