Make a Voyage of the Beagle Map
Get a map of the world and put it up on the wall. As the study progresses, mark the location of the Beagle by drawing red lines showing the progress. By the end of the class the Beagle will have circumnavigated the earth.
Mineral Samples
Locate a collection someone has of various minerals and rocks and ask them to come to class to give a demonstration and tell what the minerals are and what they are used for.
Collect Insects
Collect some insects to bring to class to see some of the species in your area.
Make Static Electricity
Bring a piece of nylon carpet to class. Students will rub their feet rapidly on the carpet and then touch something metal. Turn out the classroom lights and it may be possible to see the electric arc produced this way.
