The Exploration Game
Before class, draw a large map of an imaginary world. Make sure to include plenty of ocean and continents with a variety of terrains. Include one relatively small continent in the middle of the map. Make a second copy of this map with just the central continent showing on a grid on a paper that is at least four feet square, preferably larger. Divide the class into groups, and number them off. Assign each group a color, and allow them to create a name for themselves. Put pins the color of each group around the central continent. This is their home. Every day at the end of class allow the group to make decisions about exploration. The can choose direction, and to stay together or split up.
