Lesson 1 (from Part I (1 - 60))
Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is for students to explore Hawkins' scene-setting of Emily's and Chess's backstory and history in Part I. Emily and Chess were childhood and college best friends, and they are both writers, but Chess is far more financially successful than Emily is. Additionally, Emily has had a terrible year in that she has been beset by a serious, mysterious illness and has separated from her husband Matt of seven years. Still, Emily and Chess meet for lunch after not seeing each other for a while, and Emily is reminded of why she and Chess have been friends for so long -- and also about why Chess often annoys her.
