Objective
The objective of this Daily Lesson is to familiarize students with cultural background information relevant to their reading of Untouchable. As this novel depicts a day in the life of a member of India's Scheduled Caste, a basic understanding of India's caste system will make the reading more approachable. This lesson offers students general background information on caste, its history, and its relationship to culture and daily life in India.
