Objective
In this lesson students will discuss the use of foreshadowing and make predictions about the outcome of the novel. The True Story of Hansel and Gretel details the struggles of two young Jewish children left to fend for themselves in the forest of Bialowieza during the German invasion of Poland. Foreshadowing is a tool the author often uses to suggest things to come in the story line. Hansel has his luck restored by Magda when she takes a button from him. She has drawn a circle around the two children which Gretel mars. Hansel is worried Gretel's luck has just turned bad. Magda replies "The wheel moves, and we move with it."
